This project uses digital fabrication to redesign wet plate photography, a 170-year-old technique, to create contemporary wet plate photography. Despite being a classical technique, wet-plate photography has a resolution and texture that is superior to that of modern digital photography. However, the depletion of old equipment is becoming increasingly serious, and the technique and culture are in danger of dying out if this situation continues. This project aims to redesign the ecosystem surrounding wet plate photography itself, not by reproducing the equipment of the time as it was, but by redesigning it in a form optimised for modern processing techniques and needs.
